The Steele family
"I had to do handstands and double back flips to get respite"
“My daughter Imyjen, 9, has Swartz Jampel Syndrome a genetic condition that makes her muscles stiff,” says her mum Christine.
My beef is that you have to do handstands, double back flips and cartwheels to get respite in this country.
There are so many rules and regulations. Why can’t we just be like other families and be supported and be part of the community?
When Imyjen was born and had to go to the hospital every day, I had another daughter Auraria was 2. I had to drive to my parents two hours away to drop her off, then spend all day at the hospital and drive back.
Caring for our disabled individuals isn’t just about the individual it should be about the whole family.”
